On-Site Vacuum & Slurry Carbon Changeouts

On-Site Vacuum & Slurry Carbon Changeouts
onsite-Services-IMGL9252-Operators-and-H

Our Certified Sprint Carbon Technicians will arrive onsite to vacuum or slurry permanently installed systems. Empty vessels will be visually inspected to ensure the integrity of the liner and internal components. Simple repairs will be made if necessary and the systems refilled with fresh carbon. All spent carbon with valid profile will be packaged in DOT approved, lined supersacks or containers, labeled and transported to the Sprint owned and operated Reactivation Facility.

  • Sprint provides a turnkey carbon service for hard-piped, permanent systems. Our OSHA certified and trained technicians arrive on site to remove the spent carbon via proper conveyance, package the spent material and label for transport in UN/DOT approved packaging.

  • The interior and internals are inspected, and minor repairs made.

  • The adsorbers will be refilled with Sprint's premium activated carbon and the manways closed and sealed completely.

  • The spent carbon is transported to the reactivation facility for processing.*

* Spent carbon must have an approved profile prior to transportation for reactivation. Our technical team can assist with sampling, spent carbon sample analysis, characterization, and completing the forms for approval and assignment of a profile number. Sprint Environmental owns and operates the only, local spent carbon reactivation facility and on-site lab.

Adsorber Exchange Program

Adsorber Exchange Program

The adsorber exchange program is a cost-effective way to manage rental or non-fixed equipment changeouts. When onsite monitoring indicates breakthrough, replacement units will be delivered with fresh carbon. The spent units will be labeled, tracked via BOL and transported to the carbon reactivation facility. Upon request, a Certificate of Reactivation will be sent once the process is completed.

  • The adsorber exchange program is a convenient, cost-effective method to managing non-permanent adsorbers when the activated carbon is spent.

  • When the adsorber is spent, and you have notified Sprint, fresh canisters will be delivered and spent canisters picked up and returned for service at our service facility and the carbon is sent through the reactivation process.*

  • Sprint Environmental owns and operates the only, local spent carbon Reactivation Facility and On-Site Lab.

Carbon Reactivation Plant & On-Site Lab

Carbon Reactivation Plant & On-Site Lab
IMAGE-2-Reactivation-Plant-2.jpg
  • Sprint Environmental owns and operates the only, Texas based, spent carbon Reactivation Facility and On-Site Lab, centrally located in Crosby, TX.

  • Reactivating and recycling spent carbon is the environmentally friendly alternative to disposal or destruction

  • An on-site laboratory for analysis of spent carbon, profiling analysis, virgin carbon received analysis and QA/QC of reactivated carbon

  • Approved profile paperwork and required analytical evaluation of spent carbon must be submitted, approved and assigned a profile number prior to acceptance for reactivation

  • Pool Reactivation and  React and Return programs available

  • The reactivation process used extremely elevated temperatures in the kiln and a steam process to remove organic compounds that have adsorbed into the carbon pores

  • Reactivation destroys 99.99% of the removed contaminants via high kiln temperature, chemical reactions and oxidation in the facility's afterburner

  • The reactivation process ends the liability of handling and disposing of the adsorbed contaminants, while restoring the carbon pore structure and surface area to a near virgin-grade level product

  • Spiral separators and screening ensure proper mesh sizes

  • The process of reactivation recycles the spent carbon into fresh, reusable carbon that continues to provide exceptional performance

  • A Certificate of Reactivation is issued for each shipment

Reactivation Process Summary

Reactivation Process Summary
serv-sum-IMGL9346-HDR--React-Plant-Vesse

Spent Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) will be brought to the reactivation plant by one of two different ways. These methods are described below.

In the first method, the plant will receive the spent GAC via trucks in drums, canisters, supersacks, or in roll off boxes, and to offload those boxes via vacuum into supersacks. The kiln is equipped with a dry feed system to allow for dry feed from drums, canisters or bulk bags for vapor phase. All liquid phase feeds will be dumped through that same hopper and up to a dewatering screw that will then feed into the kiln feed screw. The dry feed spent GAC will also feed the dewatering screw. Waters removed from either of the feeds will be passed through a carbon filter to remove contaminants. The carbon filter will be changed out on a periodic basis based on spent iodine value, and the spent will be run as a separate feed stream to the kiln for reactivation as Sprint’s own spent carbon. Both feed systems are equipped with vent hoods that feed into a Spent Dust Collector. The collected dust will be put into bags for refeed to the kiln in combination with fresh feed. The Spent Dust Blower exhaust air will be fed to the Afterburner as part of its air make-up to allow any VOC’s in that air stream to be destroyed in the Afterburner.

In the second method, the plant will receive the spent GAC in trucks, or in pneumatic trailers, and to offload these trucks via an eductor as a water slurry, with water provided from a storage tank on-site, or by flooding with water and pressurization of the pneumatic trailers using air provided by the air compressor on the reactivation plant site. The offloaded spent slurry passes through a set of spiral separators that remove any bed underlayments accidentally removed with the spent carbon and is then recombined with recycled and new motive water through another eductor and transferred into a warehouse for storage.

The spent GAC will be processed in one of two kilns, with operating parameters adjusted to provide the best attainable product quality in terms of apparent density and iodine number, or apparent density and butane number for gas phase carbons, versus the spent GAC quality and number of cycles. Percent virgin make up will be adjusted to compensate for hydraulic and quality losses as described above. The kiln product will be screened to size, with fines and oversize sent to off-site processing. . Output reactivated GAC will be loaded into trucks, or pneumatic trailers from storage via a portable conveyor/elevator with appropriate virgin make-up added on a weight added basis, without product blending. Off gases from the kiln will be treated in an afterburner, quenched and scrubbed in a wet venturi/packed column scrubber, and exhausted through a stack.
